Please note: we work on R134a systems only - generally vehicles registered before 2017, when manufacturers began switching to R1234yf refrigerant. If you're unsure which your vehicle uses, call us with the registration and we'll confirm; it's also marked on a label under the bonnet.

Why Air Conditioning Loses Its Edge
All air conditioning systems gradually lose refrigerant over time - typically up to around 10% a year - through the system's seals and joints. This is normal, and it's why a system slowly blows less cold even when nothing has actually failed. A regas recovers the old refrigerant, evacuates the system and recharges it to the correct level, restoring performance.
The important distinction is between a system that's simply due a regas and one that's leaking. If air conditioning loses its cold quickly after a regas, there's a leak - and the right fix is to find and repair it, not to keep topping the system up. We carry out leak detection and repair the fault, so you're not paying to refill a system that empties itself again.
Air Conditioning Is Not Just for Summer
It's easy to think of air conditioning as a summer comfort, but it does more than keep you cool. The system also dehumidifies the air, which is what clears a fogged or misted windscreen quickly - making it genuinely useful in winter. Running the air conditioning regularly year-round also keeps the seals lubricated and the system healthy, which helps prevent the leaks and component failures that come from a system left unused for months.

Frequently Asked Questions
How often should air conditioning be regassed?
Roughly every two to three years for most vehicles, or sooner if the cooling has noticeably dropped off. Because systems lose a little refrigerant naturally each year, a periodic regas is normal maintenance rather than a sign of a fault.
My air conditioning stopped working soon after a regas. Why?
That points to a leak. If a system empties quickly after being recharged, refilling it again won't solve anything - we carry out leak detection, repair the fault, then recharge the system properly.
Do you work on newer vehicles with R1234yf gas?
No — we currently work on R134a systems only, which covers most vehicles registered before 2017. Check the label under the bonnet or call us with your registration and we'll confirm.
Why does my air conditioning smell musty?
Musty smells are usually caused by bacteria and mould building up in the system, often from infrequent use. Running the system regularly helps; persistent smells can be treated, and we can advise during a service.
Can you service air conditioning across our fleet?
Yes. For vans and company vehicles, air conditioning is part of keeping drivers comfortable, alert and able to do their job - particularly for those on the road all day. We service and maintain air conditioning across fleets on site, scheduling the work alongside servicing so it doesn't mean separate visits or extra downtime.
