Brake Servicing

Mobile Brake Servicing and Repairs

Fleet Services Autocare Limited provides brake servicing and repairs at customer premises across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey. We replace pads, discs and brake fluid and repair braking system faults using genuine manufacturer parts - at your home, depot or workplace.

Brakes are the most important safety system on any vehicle, and one of the highest-wearing - particularly on working vans that carry weight all day. Catching wear early keeps a routine pad change from becoming a more expensive disc or caliper repair, and keeps the vehicle safe on the road.

Brake Work We Carry Out

All carried out on site:

  • Brake pad replacement - front and rear

  • Brake disc replacement - discs replaced where worn, scored or below specification

  • Brake fluid replacement - restoring braking performance and protecting the system

  • Caliper repairs and replacement - seized, sticking or leaking calipers

  • Brake inspections and safety checks - wear measurement and system condition

  • Diagnosis and repair of warning lights, noises, vibration, pulling and binding brakes

Signs Your Brakes Need Attention

Have your brakes inspected promptly if you notice any of the following:

  • Squealing, grinding or scraping when braking — grinding in particular often means the pads are worn through and the discs are being damaged

  • A soft, spongy or low brake pedal

  • The vehicle pulling to one side under braking

  • Vibration or judder through the pedal or steering wheel when braking

  • A brake warning light on the dashboard

  • Longer stopping distances, or the brakes simply feeling less effective

Brakes are safety-critical. If something doesn't feel right, it's worth having them checked before driving the vehicle further — call us and we'll come to you.

Why Brake Fluid Replacement Matters

Brake fluid is easy to overlook, but it's part of what keeps your brakes working. Brake fluid is hygroscopic - it absorbs moisture from the air over time - and as the water content rises, the fluid's boiling point falls. Under hard or repeated braking, that can cause the fluid to boil, which leads to a soft pedal and reduced braking performance just when you need it most. Most manufacturers recommend replacing brake fluid every two years for this reason. We check fluid condition during servicing and replace it as needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do brake pads last?
Typically 25,000–60,000 miles, but it varies widely with the vehicle, the load and how it's driven. Vans carrying weight and vehicles on stop-start urban routes wear pads considerably faster than lightly used cars.

Why are my brakes squealing or grinding?
Squealing can indicate worn pads or wear indicators doing their job; grinding usually means the pads are worn through and metal is contacting the disc, which damages the discs and should be checked urgently. Either way, have them inspected before the problem - and the cost - grows.

How often should brake fluid be changed?
Most manufacturers recommend every two years, because brake fluid absorbs moisture over time and its performance degrades. We check fluid condition during servicing and advise when it's due.

Can brakes really be replaced at my premises?
Yes. Pad, disc, fluid and caliper work are all carried out on site as part of our mobile service, across Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey.

Should brake pads and discs be replaced together?
Not always - pads wear faster and are often replaced on their own. But discs have a minimum thickness and once they reach it they must be replaced, ideally with the pads. We measure the discs and advise honestly on whether they need doing.
