What Is a Pre-MOT Check?
A pre-MOT check is an inspection of the items the MOT test assesses, carried out before the vehicle goes for its test. It covers the same ground the tester will - brakes, tyres, lights, steering, suspension, exhaust and emissions-related warning lights, wipers, washers, seatbelts, mirrors and general condition.
The point is simple: find anything that would fail the test while there's still time to put it right. A vehicle that's been pre-checked and any faults repaired goes into its MOT with a far better chance of passing first time.

Why Have a Pre-MOT Check?
A failed MOT is more than an inconvenience. It means the vehicle off the road, a repair to arrange, and a retest before it's legal to drive again. For a business vehicle, that's lost working time on top of the repair cost; for any driver, it's the hassle of a second trip and a vehicle that can't be used in the meantime.
A pre-MOT check a week or two before the test date heads all of that off. You find out what needs doing in advance, the work gets done on your schedule rather than against the clock, and the vehicle passes when it's presented. We can carry out the check and most of the resulting repairs in the same visit, at your premises.

Do you carry out the MOT test itself?
No — the MOT test must be carried out at an authorised test station. What we do is prepare the vehicle beforehand, finding and fixing the faults that would otherwise cause a failure, so it passes first time.
When should I have a pre-MOT check?
Ideally a week or two before the test, which leaves time to order any parts and carry out repairs without rushing. Call us with your MOT due date and we'll arrange a visit in good time.
Will an engine management light fail the MOT?
Yes — an illuminated engine management light is an automatic MOT failure. We can diagnose and repair the underlying fault as part of the pre-MOT check.
Can you fix faults found during the check?
Usually, yes. Most common failures - brakes, bulbs, wipers, suspension components - can be repaired on site during the same visit, subject to parts availability. Where a part must be ordered, we return to fit it before your test.
How is a pre-MOT check different from a service?
A service maintains the vehicle to keep it reliable; a pre-MOT check specifically targets the items the MOT assesses, to make sure it passes. They overlap, and having both done together is often sensible - we can advise.
